it is easy to find a wooden or stone handmade african tribal statue in most shops and street markets all over tanzania, particularly in dar es salaam on the mainland and stone town, zanzibar.
baobab sweets come from the baobab tree which has a big bulbous trunk and large seed pods. the sweets are apparently high in vitamins and tangy, dried and sugary, with a pip in. people seem to either like them a lot or dislike them completely!
zanzibar grows a lot of exotic culinary and aromatic spices, which can be found in stone town in the street markets (go to creek road) and in the smaller villages dotted around the island. it is also possible to go on a spice tour where guides will identify the sources and talk you through how they pick and extract them. market sellers also sell them as wrapped gift sets, making them ideal presents to take home.
